Social Media

Monthly Archives: November 2012

For this weeks assignment, I am going to be setting up a social media plan for a fictional business that deals with supplying promotional material for schools, leagues and sports teams. This business can personalize materials such as jerseys and pens and it has approximately 20 people employed within the company. Building this business plan will help the company know how and when to accomplish their goals.  So now that I have explained a portion of the company, I am not going to present you with the social media plan that I have created for this business.

A social Media Plan can be very useful for Extreme Promotional Materials  because it can help the business in many different areas such as marketing, advertising, resources for information regarding new and upcoming technology. A social media plan can lead to new business opportunities and also a advancement in the company’s future. Using all the social media tools can improve Extreme Promotional Materials by communicating and informing people new branches or  to offer. Using a plan can be helpful in watching for new trends or fads.

Mission, Vision, Goals

Extreme Promotional Materials hope to extend their business to more than just the Southern Ontario area. Their mission is to stay on the ball of things that are happening on social media and plan their strategy around it. This company hopes to achieve a greater/ stronger  relationship with their customers by using social media tools such as facebook, twitter or youtube. And finally to make it easier for the customer to receive their merchandise, because customer satisfaction is the number priority in a small-medium sized business.

Key Messages

They main message that Extreme Promotional Materials wants to send out is that they are willing to fulfill your every need when it comes to supplying merchandise for any occasion. Whether it be a sports event or a school gathering, they want to give you great service to make sure all your needs are accomplished.

Target Audiences

Extreme Promotional Materials target audience is a specific range of ages. They range from schools, to other businesses and clubs. Preferably groups of people who are using this merchandise for their own way of advertising and want their names/logo on it so they buy they supplies in large quantities.

Social Media Tools and Engagement Strategy

The three social medias that I think would be very useful are LinkedIn, facebook and twitter. These three are  the basis of social media and all three together can create a very powerful tool that can make a new positive  image for Extreme Promotional Materials. Facebook is great for letting people know the history, facts and events that are happening with your company. Twitter is perfect for letting customers know day-by-day what going on instantly. And finally, LinkedIn would be very helpful for adding new employees to the staff and it provides a profile of the company and what its all about. The content of all the information being announced will be informative and the tone will be easy going. And it aims at more a mature audience.

It is very important to have a business plan for a company because it is something that can keep you on track and stay on the path of success. Having a social media plan is a great idea and its guidelines helps you understand how this is critical for a business. And finally, the significance of having a business plan is necessary for success.

For this weeks assignment, I am going to be explaining three different steps I can do to better my digital footprint. The three steps are to: Google myself on a regular basis (at least once a month), set privacy setting on my facebook account so no one that isn’t my friend can access my personal information and finally, I’m going to be more cautious about the pictures and statuses  post on there.

My first step to cleaning up my digital footprint is to search my full name on Google and make sure nothing inappropriate shows up. I would search  my name online because, well first to make sure I come up in the top three links, and second to make sure the my name shows up with my social networks. I think Googling myself would help significantly because it’s where all future bosses go to look up their future employees and see what kind of person they are hiring.

Secondly, I would change the setting on my facebook account so only people I have approved can see my post, pictures and shares. I would go into privacy settings and change to private for my Wall, Photos and Personal Information. I think changing the settings on my facebook account would be  good protection for my digital footprint because  it shows that I care about my online identity and how people perceive me. Also, so no one I don’t know can harass me or access my info. for there own gain.

My last strategy for cleaning up my digital  is to generally be more cautious about what kind of content I am posting online. And to also be aware to who can see all the posts. This would be very effective because in the future people such as future bosses and other co-workers can see all the posts and I could be a risk for job/career opportunities.

To conclude, I believe that using all these methods can make a more appealing online profile. All these steps can lead to a cleaner digital footprint for anyone because it not only creates a better presentation of yourself, but also allows a more inviting virtual presence of yourself.

For this weeks blog post assignment I’m going to be analyzing three social media articles from three different social media networks. The first article is about the two candidates running for President of the United States, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. And their impact on Tumblr. The second articles is about hurricane Sandy and the amount of  responses/reactions from  people on twitter. Lastly, the third article is about social networking and how it can be used for all types of living.

The first article is titled How Romney and Obama Stack Up on Tumblr, written by Fernando Alfonso III , November 2nd 2012 .  This article covers the popularity of posts that both Romney and Obama are tagged in. It discusses how the people on tumblr are responding to the debates and their feelings toward Romney and Obama. There are  lines charts that show the number of posts/reblogs and likes of each candidate and it shows Romney is more popular than Obama with reblogs and likes. But  not all the posts are of a positive nature. A great part of Romney’s ‘popularity’ is people making fun, bashing, freaking out on him.

This topic relates back to social media by how they are creating  their own advertising, whether is be good or bad, with not effort at all. Their opinions about they way they think the country should be ran is creating arguments and conflicts between the tumblies.  This builds Romney’s and Obama’s campaign and gives them a good idea on how people are reacting to their ideas about the US.

The second article is called Twitter Releases Numbers Related To Hurricane Sandy: More Than 20M Tweets Sent During Its Peak  by Drew Olanoff on November 2nd, 2012.  The top news story lately is about Hurricane Sandy and how it has hit millions in the United States and parts of Canada. It’s main point in the article is focused on the people who turn to Twitter to talk about what’s going on at the present time. This has been a very popular topic, so popular that there has been a Twitter account specifically based around making puns about Hurricane Sandy.   It covers peak times of tweets and top tags such as #Sandy, #Hurricane and #Donate.

This article is related to social media because of how a natural disaster can impact not only the environment, but also social networks. In less than 1 day, Hurricane Sandy was the talk of  Twitter. It shows how and when people are tweeting Sandy, along with peak times.  With all this publicity that Sandy is getting, there are lots of donating opportunities that people are creating. People all over will need people for blood donations, reconstruction and supplies. A disaster like this is a  social media magnate and there is always a positive side to someones misfortune, weather we like it or not. (yes, that was a pun.)

The last article is called Becoming a Social Business isn’t just for Social Media by Ilana Rabinowitz,  October 26th 2012. This article talks about the new ways businesses operate their company. It has ideas about how differently we find out information compared to 10  years ago. It’s main point is focused on how a business changes there research strategy  about their demographic and target audience and how they keep up with new ways to communicate their message through the media.

This article relates to social media by the way of communication between businesses and the rest of the world.  Media is used is being used by both every-day people and large business and organizations, so the primary source of advertising is social networks. And the more a business is involved with their customers, the more the customers respond to the message the company is try to get out.
